The featured race on Saturday’s stakes-filled card at Laurel is the 23rd edition of the Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash. The six furlong race has drawn a field of ten to compete for a purse of $350,000. 
The scratch of returning champion Magician has left Saturday’s $3 million Breeders’ Cup Turf a wide open affair. The Grade 1 race has drawn an international field of twelve to compete in the mile and a half contest. 
The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Fillies features a field of 14 two year-old runners – ten from the United States and four from Europe – set to go a mile on the turf for a purse of $1 million. 
On Sunday at Belmont Park, the featured race is the 20th running of the $200,000 Turn Back the Alarm Handicap. The Grade 3 race will be run at a mile and a sixteenth on the main track and has drawn a field of eight. 
On Sunday at Woodbine, a field of ten long-distance turf horses will compete in the 77th running of the $1 million Canadian International. The prestigious Grade 1 race will be contested at a mile and a half on the turf. 
Nine fillies and mares are set to contest the $150,000 Iroquois Stakes Saturday, October 18 at Belmont Park in a six and a half furlong sprint race on the main track. 
On Saturday at Gulfstream Park West, the featured race is the $90,000 Eight Miles West Stakes. The one mile contest has drawn a field of six and will be run on the main track. 
The Grade 1 $400,000 First Lady October 4 at Keeneland features a field of nine fillies and mares going a mile on the turf course in a very evenly matched race. 
On Saturday at Belmont Park, some of the top two-year-olds will try to position themselves for a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and potentially, next year, a bid at the Triple Crown. The Grade 1 Champagne Stakes, run at a mile on the main track, has drawn a field of six to compete for the winner’s share of $500,000.
