Field of Six Set for $90,000 Eight Miles West Stakes
On Saturday at Gulfstream Park West, the featured race is the $90,000 Eight Miles West Stakes. The one mile contest has drawn a field of six and will be run on the main track.
Stormin Monarcho has been tabbed as the 9-5 morning line favorite for the David Jacobson barn. The four-year-old gelding is by Kentucky Derby winner Monarchos and is a minor stakes winner. He was last seen winning the Governors Day Stakes at Delaware Park by a nose. A seven-time winner, he has won three of his nine starts this year. David Cohen will be in the irons and the pair will break from post position four.
Graded stakes winner Valid going for two in a row
Valid, winner of the Monmouth Cup (G2) in July, has been tabbed at morning line odds of 2-1 and is one of two horses in the race for trainer Marcus Vitali and Crossed Sabres Farm. Valid, a four-year-old son of Medaglia d’Oro, was purchased for $500,000 as a yearling and has won six of his nineteen starts. He was last seen winning an allowance race over a sloppy track as the favorite and will have regular rider Orlando Bocachica aboard from the rail.
Csaba a horse for the course over Calder main track
Also in the field at odds of 4-1 is Csaba, a multiple graded stakes winning son of Kitten’s Joy. Trained by Phillip Gleaves, the five-year-old will have Manoel Cruz aboard after the pair finished third behind Valid last time out in an allowance race. Ten of his thirteen career victories have come at Calder which is the track where the Gulfstream Park West meet is taking place. With two wins this year, he will break from post six.
