The $200,000 Withers Stakes February 7 at Aqueduct features at least one legitimate Kentucky Derby contender in El Kabeir, who will tackle six rivals looking to acquire qualifying points in the mile and one sixteenth race on dirt. 
On Sunday at Aqueduct, the featured race is the inaugural running of the $125,000 Franklin Square Stakes. Restricted to three-year-old fillies bred in New York, the six-furlong contest has drawn a field of ten. 
On Saturday at Santa Anita, the track will host the 25th running of the $150,000 California Cup Sprint. The six-furlong contest has drawn a competitive field of nine California-bred colts and geldings. 
Oaklawn Park’s January 19 holiday card features the $150,000 Smarty Jones Stakes – a race that awards ten Kentucky Derby qualifying points to the winner – with a field of nine set to contest the one mile event. 
On Saturday at Santa Anita, the featured race is the 41st edition of the $200,000 La Canada Stakes. Restricted to four-year-old fillies, the Grade 2 contest is run at a mile and a sixteenth on the main track and has drawn a field of nine. 
On Saturday at Fair Grounds, the featured race is the 50th edition of the $60,000 Pan Zareta Stakes. Carded to be run at five and a half furlongs on the turf, the race has drawn a field of six fillies and mares. 
The $60,000 Pan Zareta Stakes January 10 at Fair Grounds is the lone stakes race on the card, featuring a compact field of six fillies and mares scheduled for the five and a half furlong turf sprint.
