With a drop in temperature across central Kentucky, locals are at least assured that things will heat up on the track, as opening day of the prestigious Keeneland meet is scheduled to begin Friday October 2 with a pair of graded stakes events. 
On Saturday at Santa Anita, the featured race is the $300,000 Awesome Again Stakes. As part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge series, a win in this Grade 1 event would grant the victor an automatic spot in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1). The mile and an eighth race has drawn a field of eight. 
On Saturday at Parx Racing, the track will host the $1 million Cotillion Stakes. A Grade 1 event for three-year-old fillies, the race will be contested at a mile and a sixteenth and has drawn a field of eleven.
