The fourth annual 2020 Pegasus World Cup will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020, at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida. We have complete coverage including odds to win and best bet recommendations.

The fourth running of the Pegasus World Cup (G1), a 1 1/8-mile contest worth $3 million, will be held on Saturday, January 25, at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida.

Each year the race features some of the best horses in the United States, including Breeders’ Cup winners and Eclipse champions. The card also features the $1 million Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1), which will pit foreigner Magic Wand against a field of North American grass horses. The contenders, the odds published by the best racebooks, and best bet recommendations for both races can be found here.

2020 Pegasus World Cup Contenders

Although all eyes will be on Fox Hill Farms’ Omaha Beach, the likely favorite in the Pegasus World Cup, the race will be far from easy.

Trainer Bob Baffert, who won the first edition in 2017 with Arrogate, sends Mucho Gusto, a winner of five of ten starts and former Triple Crown contender. He also picks up jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr., who was the regular rider of Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile hero Spun to Run, which could affect the odds to win the Pegasus World Cup. Spun to Run led every step of the way to score in the Breeders’ Cup over a heavily favored Omaha Beach, who was the darling of racing last year.

Omaha Beach broke his maiden in February last year, starting a winning streak of four straight races, including the Arkansas Derby (G1) over eventual Kentucky Derby winner Country House, that led to favoritism at the Kentucky Derby (G1) itself.

The son of War Front had to scratch due to a throat issue in the days before the race, shocking the horse world. Trainer Richard Mandella kept him on the shelf over the summer and Omaha Beach returned in full force October 5, defeating a field of crack sprinters in the Santa Anita Sprint Championship (G1). Mike Smith will ride the four-year-old son of War Front.

Higher Power, Math Wizard, and Seeking the Soul are the three horses exiting the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) to run here. Higher Power won the $1 million Pacific Classic in August, which was the first stakes win of his career. Math Wizard scored an upset in the Pennsylvania Derby (G1) last September, (G1) while Seeking the Soul finished second in this race last year.

One of the most exciting Pegasus World Cup contenders is Bodexpress, who became famous last year when unseating his rider at the start of the Preakness Stakes (G1) and running freely around the track before being caught after the race.

The son of Bodemeister had time off after that debacle and then won impressively two races in a row at Gulfstream Park West before finishing third in Harlan’s Holiday here December 14 behind fellow Pegasus World Cup entrant War Story.

Other expected contenders are Diamond OopsMr Freeze, Tax, Tenfold, and True Timber.

2020 Pegasus World Cup Best Bet Recommendations

It is likely that Omaha Beach will make it four in a row for favorites winning this prestigious race, which once had a purse of $16 million, and is the pick for the best bet recommendation. He is currently trading at EVEN on Bovada, which uses premium horse wagering options to its customers.

While using Omaha Beach does not offer much value, the exotic wagers can help the bankroll, keeping in mind that 34-1 Seeking the Soul finished second last year. Here are other best bet recommendations:

2020 Pegasus World Cup Turf Contenders

California shipper Mo Forza comes in off a four-race win streak, including the Hollywood Derby (G1), Twilight Derby (G2), and Mathis Brothers Mile Stakes (G2). The son of Uncle Mo is trained by Peter Miller, who will take on the titan Aidan O’Brien with his Irish-trained filly Magic Wand. Magic Wand was second in this race last year and has earned more than $4.1 million. Last out she missed in a major international Group 1 event in Hong Kong by a nose.

She and Mo Forza will face a full field including Admission Office, Arklow, Channel Cat, Henley’s Joy, Instilled Regard, Next Shares, Sacred Life, Sadler’s Joy, Without Parole, and Zulu Alpha
