On Saturday at Santa Anita, the track will host the 64th running of the $200,000 Santa Ynez Stakes. The six and a half furlong contest has drawn a field of nine three-year-old fillies.
Light the City has been tabbed as the morning line favorite in the competitive group at odds of 3-1 for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. An $80,000 yearling, she broke her maiden over the synthetic main track at Del Mar in August and followed that up with a win in the Anoakia Stakes at Santa Anita. She was third as the heavy favorite last time out in the Desi Arnaz Stakes. Regular rider Elvis Trujillo will remain aboard from post position three.
Callback taking on winners after maiden score
Second choice at 4-1 on the morning line is Callback for trainer Bob Baffert. Purchased for $375,000 as a yearling by Spendthrift Farm, the bay daughter of Street Sense will be making her first start against stakes competition after breaking her maiden as the favorite in her second career start. She was ninth as the favorite in her debut effort. Martin Garcia, aboard for both career starts, has retained the mount and they will break from post two.
Conquest Harlanate trying dirt for the first time
Also in the field at morning line odds of 6-1 is Conquest Harlanate who will be trying to rebound after finishing eleventh in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Filly Turf (G1). Trained by Mark Casse, the bay daughter of Harlan’s Holiday is a graded stakes winner on both turf and synthetics and will be trying to add a win on conventional dirt to her resume. Mike Smith will be aboard for the first time and they are scheduled to break from post position eight.
