Kentuckian Tops Field for $350,000 Los Alamitos Derby
Kentuckian tops the field as the morning line favorite at odds of 6-5 for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer who also saddled Shared Belief to win this race last year. Kentuckian, a gray son of Tiznow, has won two of his three starts and earned the first graded stakes victory of his career last time out in the Lazaro Barrera Stakes (G3). He will have regular rider Mike Smith aboard and they are scheduled to break from post position four as he goes for his second straight graded stakes win.
Prospect Park trying for first stakes win
Second choice at 8-5 on the morning line is Prospect Park for trainer Clifford Sise, Jr. Bred and owned by Pam and Marin Wygod, the dark bay son of Tapit has been on the board in six of his eight starts and has two career victories. He is coming out of a runner-up effort in the Affirmed Stakes (G3) and will be trying to earn the first stakes victory of his career. Tyler Baze will be aboard from the outside post.
Gimme Da Lute going for second straight stakes win
Also in the field at morning line odds of 5-2 is Gimme Da Lute for trainer Bob Baffert. A bay son of Midnight Lute, he has been on the board in all six starts and is a three-time winner. Last time out, he scored the first graded stakes win of his career in the Affirmed Stakes (G3) by half a length and will try to make it back to back stakes wins under Martin Garcia. They will break from post position two.
