Guns Loaded Ready to Fire in $100,000 San Simeon Stakes
On Saturday at Santa Anita, the featured race is the $100,000 San Simeon Stakes. Scheduled to be run at about six and a half furlongs over the downhill turf course, the Grade 3 has drawn a field of nine colts and geldings.
Guns Loaded has been installed as the morning line favorite at odds of 5-2 for trainer Doug O’Neill. A five-year-old gelded son of D’Wildcat, he is a seven time career winner and will be trying to earn his first graded stakes victory. He has two wins from three starts this year and is coming out of two consecutive victories, most recently in the Joe Hernandez Stakes in February. Rafael Bejarano will be aboard and they will break from post position seven.
Hay Dude (GB) trying to rebound after last race
Second choice at morning line odds of 3-1 is Hay Dude (GB), one of two horses in the race for trainer Phil D’Amato. A chestnut son of Dubawi (IRE), the gelding has been on the board in twelve of his twenty starts and is trying to notch his fifth win. He has yet to win a stakes race and is trying to improve off of a sixth-place finish in the San Marcos Stakes (G2) last time out. Tyler Baze will be in the irons and they will break from post position five.
No Silent stepping back up to graded stakes company
Also in the field at morning line odds of 7-2 is No Silent for trainer Gary Mandella. A seven-year-old son of Silent Name (JPN), the veteran gelding is a seven-time winner and was a graded stakes winner last year. He made his first start of the year last time out at Golden Gate Fields and finished second in the Lost in the Fog Stakes. Gary Stevens will be aboard and they are scheduled to break from post position four.
