It’s not just the owners and trainers of the horses who look forward to the Breeders’ Cup Classic. It is one of the most exciting and profitable horse race betting events of the year. With such a deep and classy field, there is always value to find in straight and exotic pools, and this is the place to find out how and where to bet the Breeders’ Cup Classic online in New York.

Where to Bet the Breeders' Cup Classic

Before you bet a single dollar on the Breeders’ Cup, it is good to know the best places to bet the race. All of these recommended racebooks offer the basics: market-leading odds, trusted payouts, and smooth user interfaces.

Each site also features great racebook bonus offers. Each one offers different ones such as sign-up and deposit bonuses, referral benefits, and even horse racing rebates that pay you cash for every bet, win or lose. Take a few minutes now and let our experts help you figure out the one that is best for your betting style. Then, you can build your bankroll by hundreds or even thousands of dollars during the Breeders’ Cup and beyond.

Breeders' Cup Classic Horses

This is the official field for the 2023 Breeders' Cup Classic including post positions, trainers, jockeys, and morning lines:

  1. Arcangelo (Jena Antonucci/Javier Castellano) - 7/2 - SCRATCHED
  2. Zandon (Chad Brown/Frankie Dettori) - 12/1
  3. White Abarrio (Rick Dutrow/Irad Ortiz, Jr.) - 4/1
  4. Missed the Cut (John Sadler/Luis Saez) - 30/1
  5. Derma Sotogake (Hidetaka Otonashi/Christophe Lemaire) - 20/1
  6. Saudi Crown (Brad Cox/Florent Geroux) - 12/1
  7. Clapton (Chad Summers/Tyler Gaffalione) - 20/1
  8. Ushba Tesoro (Noboru Takagi/Yuga Kawada) - 4/1
  9. Senor Buscador (Todd Fincher/Geovanni Franco) - 30/1
  10. Dreamlike (Todd Pletcher/Jose Ortiz) - 30/1
  11. Bright Future (Todd Pletcher/John Velazquez) - 10/1
  12. Arabian Knight (Bob Baffert/Flavien Prat) - 3/1
  13. Proxy (Mike Stidham/Joel Rosario) - 12/1

The morning line can be a useful guide to which horses are expected to take wagering action or not. However, you are not guaranteed those prices when you bet at the track. You are stuck with whatever the price is at post time, meaning late betting action can drop your odds considerably.

Your best bet in the 2023 Breeders’ Cup is to play the race at a trusted online racebook. Since they let you lock in your odds at the moment you place your bet, that means you know you’ll get the overlay you found. Then, when your horse wins, you know you’re going to get the betting value you expected!

Now that you know how to find the best places to play the race, let’s get to know the best horses in the 2023 Breeders' Cup Classic.

Breeders' Cup Classic Favorite

Arabian Knight should be a well-defined favorite, especially after the defection of Belmont Stakes winner Arcangelo. He is a 1 ¼-mile winner and he does stay home in California, but pace is the problem. All his winning efforts have him setting the pace, but that’s also the case for the very fast Saudi Crown. Arabian Knight is most likely to win that battle, but there will be others coming on better to win the war.

Breeders’ Cup Classic Contenders

Look no further than New York for your Breeders’ Cup value play: Bright Future. The son of Curlin comes out of a nose win over the more experienced Proxy in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1). He is lightly-enough raced to have more upside off that effort, and should be able to stay in touch and get a good run on the pacesetters at a square price.

White Abarrio should also make good account in the Classic. He marked himself a horse to watch in the Whitney (G1) at Saratoga, where he posted a visually impressive win that also came back fast in terms of speed figures. He still has to prove he can get 1 ¼ miles, but he is better now than he was when he tried it in the 2022 Kentucky Derby, and his tactical speed should suit the race flow.

Breeders’ Cup Classic Exotic Plays

Even though it would be a surprise to see either Zandon or Proxy win the Breeders’ Cup Classic, it would be no shock at all to see them hit the board. After all, that’s what both of these horses have built a career doing: reliably getting a piece against top handicap horses.

Neither drew the greatest post: Zandon has to work a trip from the fence while Proxy drew the far outside. But, they should both be able to drop somewhere off the pace and make a run in the lane. Zandon comes into this race in perhaps his best form yet, and is slightly preferred. Even so, Proxy has finished third in a Grade 1 over this course and distance, and that’s good experience.

Breeders' Cup Classic Day Wagering

Many bettors like making straight bets on the Breeders’ Cup Classic and other races. These bets are popular for a reason: they keep opinions simple and focused on a single horse running well.

A win bet requires your pick to win, and typically pays the most of any straight bet. A place wager typically pays a bit less, but your horse only has to run second or better. A show bet pays off if your horse runs third or better. “Across the board” is a straight-bet variant in which you bet the same horse to win, place, or show.

Exotic wagers are more difficult to hit, but can pay a life-changing amount of money if you are right. Some exotic wagers involve a single race: an exacta, trifecta, or superfecta requires picking the first two, three, or four horses across the wire in a single race in the right order. If you have good opinions in multiple races you can also bet exotics to cover consecutive races: the daily double, Pick 3, Pick 4, Pick 5, or Pick 6.

Breeders' Cup Classic Bets
