Belmont Park Saturday Bed O' Roses Picks

Belmont Park Saturday Bed O' Roses Picks

The Grade 3 Bed O’ Roses seems good spot for Breeders’ Cup champ Wavell Avenue to get back in the win column.

Since winning the 2015 BC Filly and Mare Sprint at odds of 10-1, the Ontario-bred out of the Chad Brown barn has been tangling with some tough company, finishing behind the likes of multiple Grade 1 winners Taris and Sheer Drama in her last two. Even as a one-run type of mare, she appears a notch above the others in here, and it will be up to jockey Joel Rosario to work out a good trip from the #2 post. She has been given high weight of 123 lbs. and is the morning line favorite at 6/5.

The field is full of horses on the upswing

Following up on a string of runner-up finishes in graded-stakes last year, Bar of Gold (4-1) has been very good lately and could prove dangerous carrying 6 lbs. less. She was third in her second-last race, finishing just a length behind favored Cavorting, who has since gone on to a pair of wins, beating some of the best older mares in the country two weeks ago in the (G1) Ogden Phipps. Last out, Bar Of Gold won the Critical Eye Stakes over a muddy Belmont track. She gets a cut back here from a mile to 7 furlongs.

By The Moon (6-1) was another length back in that same race featuring Cavorting, and could get a piece here with a repeat performance. West Coast Chick (3-1) has shown improvement lately, mostly running at the allowance level, but makes her second straight graded-stakes appearance at Belmont, having run second last out in the (G3) Vagrancy.

The Bed O' Roses goes Saturday June 25 from Belmont, post time 5:45 PM
