$100,000 Robert J. Frankel Stakes Draws Field of Twelve
On Saturday at Santa Anita, the featured race is the 47th edition of the $100,000 Robert J. Frankel Stakes. The Grade 3 race, named after the Hall of Fame trainer, will be run at a mile and an eighth on the turf and has drawn a field of twelve fillies and mares.
Rusty Slipper has been installed as the morning line favorite at odds of 7-2 for trainer Graham Motion. Since her winning debut in 2012, her career has been plagued by layoffs over the course of nine races. She has won four of her starts, including a Grade 3, and is trying to rebound after finishing tenth in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1). Aaron Gryder will be back aboard and they are scheduled to break from post position eleven.
Diversy Harbor going for first graded stakes win
Tom Proctor will saddle the morning line second choice, Diversy Harbor, at odds of 9-2. The Glen Hill Farm color bearer has been on the board in six of her eight starts this year and has earned both career starts over the Santa Anita turf. A three-year-old daughter of Curlin, she is trying to earn the first graded stakes win of her career and was last seen finishing second in the Autumn Miss (G3). Gary Stevens will be back in the irons and they will break from post four.
Winning Rhythm training sharply at Santa Anita
Also in the field at morning line odds of 6-1 is Winning Rhythm for trainer Patrick Gallagher. A four-year-old daughter of Giant’s Causeway, she made her stakes debut last time out after a pair of optional claiming race victories and finished fifth in the Red Carpet Stakes (G3). Since that last race, she has been training forwardly with a recent bullet workout at Santa Anita. Mike Smith will be back aboard and they will break from post ten.
