The early pick four and pick five Wednesday, August 27 action at Saratoga includes the $100,000 P.G. Johnson Stakes for two year-old fillies going a mile and a sixteenth on the turf course.
In what could serve as an early springboard towards the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Turf Fillies, Rainha Da Bateria is the 3/1 morning line favorite in the field of seven for trainer Graham Motion. The filly showed her precociousness by breaking her maiden with aplomb at first-asking July 21 at Saratoga. Since then, the daughter of the very successful turf sire Broken Vow has worked steadily at the Fair Hill Training Center.
Flying Tipat bypasses maiden ranks
Flying Tipat (8/1 ML) will test the waters of stakes competition despite still being a maiden. In her initial start August 10 at Saratoga, the Dale Romans trainee finished third against maiden special weight company. The daughter of leading sire Tapit recorded a maintenance work August 24 at Saratoga completing four furlongs a shade under 50 seconds flat on the main track.
French shipper could be any kind of runner
The French-bred and raced filly, Ancient Goddess (4/1 ML), makes her first start stateside after breaking her maiden at Chantilly June 15 in the second race of her career. A second place finisher in her debut, she will receive Lasix for the first time and could have tremendous upside for trainer John Terranova. Magnificent Margo (7/2 ML) is an obvious contender after beating maiden special weight company at Saratoga in her debut.
