Green Gratto Goes for Third Straight Win in $150,000 Toboggan Stakes

Category : News - Thu 28/01/2016 - 13:17 EST

On Saturday at Aqueduct, the track will host the $150,000 Toboggan Stakes. Scheduled to be run at six-furlongs, the Grade 3 race has attracted a field of ten colts and geldings.

Green Gratto tops the competitive field as the morning line favorite at odds of 2-1 for trainer Gaston Grant. A six-year-old son of Here’s Zealous, he is a six-time career winner and closed out his 2015 season with back to back wins. After earning his first graded stakes win in the Fall Highweight Handicap (G3), he wheeled back to win the Gravesend Stakes. He has had a bullet workout since that race and will break from the outside post under jockey Kendrick Carmouche.

Dads Caps back off of extended layoff

Second choice at morning line odds of 5-2 is Dads Caps, one of two horses in the race for trainer Rudy Rodriguez. A six-year-old son of Discreet Cat, he has been on the board in fifteen of his nine starts and is a five-time winner. A two-time Grade 1 winner, he was second in this race last year and has been on the shelf since a third-place finish in the True North Stakes (G2) in June. Jose Ortiz will be aboard and they will break from post four.

Step up in class for Captain Serious

Also in the field at morning line odds of 10-1 is Captain Serious for trainer Mike Hushion. A five-year-old son of Successful Appeal bred in New York, the bay gelding has won five of his fifteen starts and is trying to earn his first graded stakes victory. He is stepping back up in class after a runner-up effort against optional claiming company in December and will have Aaron Gryder in the irons from post position two.
