On Sunday at Woodbine, a field of ten long-distance turf horses will compete in the 77th running of the $1 million Canadian International. The prestigious Grade 1 race will be contested at a mile and a half on the turf.

Topping the international field at morning line odds of 2-1 is Brown Panther (GB) who will be making his North American debut for trainer Thomas Dascombe. The globe-trotting six-year-old son of Shirocco (GER) was last seen winning the Irish St. Leger (G1) at the Curragh in September and has won a total of ten of his twenty four starts for over $1 million in earnings.  Regular rider Richard Kingscote will be aboard and they are slated to break from post position four.

Big Blue Kitten making Canadian debut

Big Blue Kitten has been installed as the second choice at odds of 3-1 for trainer Chad Brown. Joel Rosario will be aboard for the first time carrying the red and white silks of Ken and Sarah Ramsey who also bred the six-year-old son of Kitten’s Joy. The multiple Grade 1 winner was last seen finishing fourth as part of a favored entry in the Turf Classic (G1) at Belmont Park.  He has won eleven times across the United States and will be making his first start at Woodbine.

Hillstar (GB) ships in from Great Britain after a win

Also in the field at morning line odds of 5-1 is Hillstar (GB) who has made the trip over from Great Britain for trainer Sir Michael Stoute.  The four-year-old son of Danehill Dancer (IRE) will be making his first start since earning the third win of his career in September in the Arc Trial Legacy Cup (G3) at Newbury. He has been first or second in all of his starts since finishing fourteenth in the Dubai World Cup in March. Regular rider Ryan Moore will remain aboard  from post seven.
